Message from General Council

Subject: General Superintendent Dr. George Wood
Welcome Holy Spirit
by Rick Welborne

John 14:26 (NKJV)
26  But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

--Dr. Wood spoke about how we were only a few miles from Azuza Street where the greatest Pentecostal revival in modern times began…102 years ago! 68,000,000 people worldwide. A spiritual earthquake!

--We must welcome Holy Spirit in our lives and He must be treated as a person not an “it”. He is a divine person…He is our seal.

Ephesians 4:30 (NKJV)
30  And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

--Holy Spirit is so great and wants to help us understand Jesus was conceived by Holy Spirit! Five things Holy Spirit wants to be for us…He wants to walk with us!

1. Holy Spirit is our Friend, our Comforter, and our Paraclete.

--When Jesus promised to send Holy Spirit…He was saying He was sending another of the same kind…another just like Him. I love the unity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

--Dr. Wood shared how a Friend believes in you…He shared that when he was very young the church where his father pastored went thru a split. In that turbulence God called him into the ministry.

Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NIV)
11  For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
12  Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
13  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Psalm 84:5-7 (NIV)
5  Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage.
6  As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools.
7  They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.

2. Holy Spirit is our Attorney, our Advocate, our Prosecuting Attorney.

--So wonderful how Holy Spirit is our prosecuting attorney convincing us of our guilt and then, becomes our defense attorney representing us before God. What an Advocate.

Romans 8:26-27 (NIV)
26  In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.
27  And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.

--Dr, Wood shares how his dad was poisoned by a village chief with the intention of killing him but Holy Spirit raised him up and he was healed…many turned to Christ after this.

--He shared a story of how his dad, after having returned to the US was concerned about the people he had ministered to on the mission field.

--Thru a message in tongues David Campbell in Arkansas names all the people in China he was worried about and that they were still living…that is Holy Spirit.

3. Holy Spirit is our Trainer…our Life Coach.

--So many people say they want a Life Coach or a Personal Trainer…nothing wrong with finding someone who will disciple us or coach us but never forget how Holy Spirit is called to be with us forever.

Galatians 5:18-25 (NIV)
18  But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.
19  The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;
20  idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions
21  and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23  gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
24  Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.
25  Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

4. Holy Spirit is our Benefactor.

--Jesus did not leave us money but what He left us was Holy Spirit power. Power to lead others to Christ and leading them into an experience with Holy Spirit.

Acts 19:1-6 (NIV)
1  While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples
2  and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."
3  So Paul asked, "Then what baptism did you receive?" "John's baptism," they replied.
4  Paul said, "John's baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus."
5  On hearing this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
6  When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.

--Pray for Holy Spirit growth not money…It is not by might, nor power, but by My Spirit says the Lord. Let your desire be more for Jesus and His power.
5. Holy Spirit is our Scout.

--Holy Spirit is the One Who will direct our paths and help us see what is coming. Dr. Wood had already told his executive staff to let their names run during the election…His Scout had gone out before Him.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV)
5  Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;
6  In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

--He spoke how Holy Spirit led Philip to the Ethiopian Eunuch and how Holy Spirit was working with Peter and Cornelius at the same time. He works both ends of the situation.

--He shared how Holy Spirit directed each step of the Dream Center Los Angeles…only God to do that.

--What will Holy Spirit do if we follow Him? Let’s follow!
